Greg Schmitt joined Carlow’s cross country staff as an assistant in August 2014 and was promoted to head cross country coach in June 2015. He is excited for the opportunity to coach the inaugural track and field team at Carlow, beginning in the spring of 2018.
Schmitt brings a wealth of coaching knowledge, as well as personal running experience, to Carlow. He served as the head cross country coach at Laurel High School from 2008-13. His time at Laurel High School was marked by numerous successes, including an overall varsity dual meet boys' and girls' combined record of 70 wins and a 70.7 winning percentage, two Section 1 AA championships, and two WPIAL (District 7) A championships. He coached 29 PIAA state qualifiers, including four medalists, two individual WPIAL champions and 14 WPIAL medalists.
Schmitt, who has been a runner since high school and a member of the BROOKS ID Program since 2009, was a two-year letter winner in track and field at Youngstown State University. His running accomplishments include being a member of the 2003 Horizon League Conference indoor championship team, a two-time State Games of America (SGA) national champion, a four-time USA 15K national qualifier and a USA 25k national qualifier for the seeded race.
