The Roundtable begins in the house built by Catherine McAuley, Mercy International Centre in Dublin, Ireland, and travels for its final days to Glendalough, a fifth century monastic city in County Wicklow. The Roundtable offers the opportunity to share presentations and discussions centered on how the heritage and values of the Sisters of Mercy inform the work of our teaching and administration. 

 


Representatives of invited institutions may attend as either presenters or participants. Presenters are invited to submit abstracts for review on the topic:

How does your work serve as the conduit for our Mercy Heritage as it passes from the past to the future?”

Individuals or groups interested in attending the 2019 Carlow Roundtable must complete and submit the online registration form by January 4, 2019. Online Registration Form.

The cost of the Round Table is $2500 USD and includes:

Transportation to and from Dublin Airport on Sunday, May 26, and Sunday, June 2, 2019

Nightly Accommodations beginning Sunday May 26 through Saturday, June 1, 2019

7 Breakfasts & 3 Dinners

Transportation to various sites 

Single rooms may be requested for an additional fee.

*Travelling Companions (spouse, family, or friends) are welcome at the cost of $2100

Attendees arrive on Sunday, May 26 and travel to Dublin, Ireland.  The Round Table presentations begin on Monday, May 27 and continue until Saturday, June 1, 2019.  A day trip is planned for Tuesday. The entire conference travels to Glendalough on Thursday for two days in this ancient monastic city.  The conference closes on the morning of June 1 and attendees return to Dublin.

Cost for participation in the Round Table is $2500 which includes ground transportation, nightly accommodations beginning Sunday May 26th through Saturday, June 1, 7 breakfasts, 3 dinners, and guided sightseeing tours. Air fare is separate. A deposit of $100 per person is due at the time of registration.

Presentation Guidelines

Faculty and Staff who wish to present on a topic at the Carlow Round Table are invited to submit an abstract for review on the topic:

175 Years of Mercy - The Heritage We Have Received; the Heritage We Pass On

How does your work serve as the conduit for our Mercy Heritage as it passes from the past to the future?

The conference committee will select from among the abstracts those that will be presented at the conference. Selected papers will be considered for web publication. In writing your abstract consider the four hallmarks of a Mercy Education as outlined in the Mercy Higher Education: Culture and Characteristics, authored by Maryann Stevens, RSM, PhD.

  1. Regard for the dignity of the person
  2. Academic excellence and life-long learning
  3. Education of the whole person:  body, mind, and spirit
  4. Through action and education, promotion of compassion and justice towards those with less, especially women and children

The abstract is to be no longer than one page, double spaced. In addition, a short bio must be included with the registration and abstract.  Abstracts can be submitted on-line, mailed or emailed along with the registration.  Deposits can be made by check or credit card.  The selection and notification of presenters will be completed by January 19, 2019.

Presentations Guidelines

(for presentations selected by the committee)

We schedule 60 minutes for each presenter or group of presenters.  Presentations should last 20-30 minutes allowing 30-40 minutes of discussion.  You may provide handouts to participants, but they are not necessary.   A computer and projector will be provided with MS Office including Power Point.  Upon notification of acceptance, more details will be provided.
