Performance: 7:00 p.m.

Alumni Engagement and Carlow University Theatre invite you to join us for an alumni Speakeasy reception to commemorate 90th Anniversary of the founding of Mount Mercy College.

Time Capsule 1929 will provide a look at what the world was like in September 1929. How was Mount Mercy College founded, what was the reaction in the press, what did Oakland look like then, what was popular in Pittsburgh, the country and the world at large? You can discover through memorabilia, press clippings, archival material, old photos, and other ephemera.

And, if you had ventured out to the theatre that night, you could have taken in a performance of the long-running Broadway smash hit Abie’s Irish Rose. Carlow University Theatre will also recreate that show, which held the record for the longest-running Broadway show from the 1920s (opening in 1922) thru the early 1940s. In fact, it is still the 32nd longest-running show in Broadway history. The Time Capsule will also feature information on the show’s history (it spawned 2 movies and a radio show) as well as a look at the theatres, shows, and companies on Broadway in 1929.
