What is the CREATE Lab Satellite Network?

CREATE, part of Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute, stands for the Community Robotics, Education, and Technology Empowerment Lab. The CREATE Lab Satellite Network engages educators and local communities in the development and dissemination of cutting edge technologies and innovative approaches to learning and teaching.

In partnership with nine universities in four states, CMU CREATE Lab and innovation partner BirdBrain Technologies bring technology fluency to communities in locally relevant ways.

An outreach team at each university acts as a CREATE Lab Satellite, sharing and supporting CREATE Lab projects in their community through teacher professional development, pre-service teacher training and graduate education programs. Satellites serve as a local hub educators can turn to for guidance, equipment and resource lending, and other support.

Since 2012, CREATE Lab Carlow Satellite work has been jointly sponsored by Dr. Rae Ann Hirsh, Carlow University faculty member and program director of the Early Education Program, and Mrs. Suzanne Ament, Campus School teacher.

Satellite Technologies available in the Campus School and Education Program:

Finches, Hummingbird kits, Cardboards, Gigpan, SPECK Air Filter, new Flutter Circuit Blocks, iPads

Carlow University CREATE Lab Community Engagement:

  • STEAM Showcase
  • STEM Day at Lincoln Elementary School
  • Preschool STEM Literacy Day
  • NIST Conference for Middle School Science Teachers CONTEXT Conference presentations
