The Carlow men’s basketball team fell to No. 2 Indiana University East, 88-67, on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Oakland Catholic.
The Celtics (4-17/4-8/0-1) had an early 15-10 lead, but the Red Wolves (24-2/13-0) took the lead for the final time, 20-18, with 8:48 to play in the first half. IU East had a 40-32 halftime advantage.
The Celtics kept fighting in the second half, and cut their deficit to 62-59 with 10:46 remaining, but they could get no closer. The Red Wolves scored the next five points and went on to pull away.
Charlie Scharbo (SR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.) led Carlow with 22 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Zach Bryan (SR/Irwin, Pa.) talled 15 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Ryan Jackson (JR/Baltimore, Md.) added 13 points.
The Red Wolves had four players score in double figures, topped by Charles Peterson and Datrion Harper, with 18 points apiece. Jaylen McKay had 16 points and Lucas Huffman had 11. Aaron Thomas grabbed 11 rebounds with his eight points.
The Celtics shot the ball well, at 46.3 percent (25-of-54) from the floor and 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from 3. But IU East was even better, at 53.7 percent (36-pf-67) from the floor and 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from 3.
The Red Wolves won the rebounding battle, 35-25. Both teams had 13 turnovers apiece.
The Celtics next host Point Park on Tuesday, Feb. 6, on First Responders Night.
